Conference Venue

FORMATS 2011 will be held at Hotel Phønix in the Danish city of Aalborg. Aalborg is an old city in northern Denmark with a long, colorful history full of ancient streets and historical buildings. One of these ancient buildings is the 18th-century Hotel Phønix, which has been renovated extensively some years ago so that now it is both ancient and modern.

Social Program

Thursday afternoon we will have occasion to visit the old Viking burial site and museum Lindholm Høje. We will go by bus from the parking lot behind Phønix hotel at 18:05. At Lindholm Høje, we will have a guided tour of the Viking site (bring suitable footwear: the grass will be wet), and we will finish the day with a Viking dinner.

Aalborg is easy to reach by direct plane from Copenhagen, Amsterdam, London, and a few other destinations. Public transportation in Aalborg is by buses; bus no. 2 connects the airport with the city centre.

The registration fee for FORMATS 2011 is 2060 DKK / 275 Euro. Registration includes three lunches, coffee breaks, the social event, and the conference proceedings. Note that registration does not include accommodation.

One of the cultural centers of Denmark, Aalborg is a vibrant, modern university city whose fascinating past coexists with the latest trends. Aalborg is also one of the industrial centers of Denmark, and the old power plant in center town has recently been rebranded as what is now one of Europe's largest and most exciting cultural centers, Nordkraft.
